Nvidia Launches Jetson AGX Thor Robotics Chip Developer Kit
Nvidia unveiled its latest robotics module, the Jetson AGX Thor, priced at $3,499 as a developer kit. Designed to serve as a 'robot brain,' the chip enables customers to prototype advanced robotics solutions. Shipping begins next month, with production modules (Thor T5000) slated for release post-design finalization at $2,999 per unit for bulk orders exceeding 1,000.
CEO Jensen Huang identifies robotics as Nvidia's most significant growth frontier beyond AI, which has already propelled sales to triple over two years. The Jetson Thor leverages Blackwell GPU architecture, delivering 7.5x the performance of its predecessor—critical for running generative AI, LLMs, and vision systems essential to humanoid robots. With 128GB memory, it handles intensive AI workloads seamlessly.
Industry giants like Agility Robotics, Boston Dynamics, Meta, and Amazon currently deploy Jetson chips, while Nvidia strategically invests in startups like Field AI. Though robotics contributes merely 1% to revenue presently, its grouping with automotive in recent corporate restructuring signals long-term strategic prioritization.
